#NewMusicDiscovery: This Is A Lifetime

Recently, I've been discovering new music through my twitter feeds. How? I've been getting new followers and a few interactions from bands/artists. It's kinda flattering for someone like me (who's just a nobody on the internet). So, I've promised myself that I will find some time to help them by blogging about them and their music. Here's my first: THIS IS A LIFETIME.
This Is A Lifetime or TIAL is a metal band from Northeast Ohio. Stevie James on vocals, Mike Oiler on guitar and clean vocals, Morgan Patterson on bass and Joe Czekaj on drums are the band. I checked out their profile on Battle of the Bands Warped Tour; and yes, I voted for them. On their Facebook page's About section, "Follow your dreams :: Destroy anything in your way." is written. Huh, Hatebreed's influence? Oh, I'm getting more curious. You know, 'coz I love Hatebreed.

So anyway, I checked out the band's profile on Facebook as well as their website to see if I could listen to some of their songs. There are 5 songs available on their page and you can listen to them to your heart's content. There are also 4 songs up on the Battle of the Bands Warped Tour 2014 page. Yup, I listened to all of the songs! Since it was the first on the list, I listened to Witness first. My first thoughts? Nice. The guttural growl of Stevie and the clean vocals of Mike is a perfect combination! Oh my God! I would love to watch a live performance of this band. Too bad I'm not from around the US or I'll have watched a show or two by now. Well, I have no choice but to wait for them to do a world tour and drop by Manila for the Asian leg. Hey guys (TIAL), make it in the near future alright?
Next, I listened to Clarity since it's also the title of their album. I totally LOVED IT! It could just be me, but the balance of heavy guttural singing and clean, even sweet, vocals appealed to me so much. I couldn't stop listening. In fact, while dong this blog post, I have listened to Witness and Clarity from their Facebook page, the Battle of the Bands page, and their Bandcamp page. And I have listened to the two songs twice from each page. Crazy, huh? Right now, I'm listening to Ascend. Why does this have only 17 plays on there? Yes, this one is on the heavier side but it's a great song nonetheless. Earlier, I also listened to Survival and Price. Equally great songs. Although, it's clear now that Clarity, Witness and Ascend are my top choices. But, I am downloading all of the 5 songs; I just need to add funds to my Paypal account first. :D

Huh, why don't I know about this band until now? They don't even have their own Wiki page yet. Could somebody set up one for them please? I would have done it but I don't have information about them; only the tidbits I could find on their band page and Facebook. But seriously, I hope these guys find their place in the international music battleground soon. People need to hear their music. Best of luck, TIAL! I hope you're here for a lifetime.

For more information about the band, you can check out their Facebook page. There, you can listen to the songs I was talking about as well as support them by buying their digital album and merch.

Follow them on Twitter! @thisisalifetime
Subscribe to their YouTube channel! YT/user/thisisalifetime
Add them on your circles! +thisisalifetime
Stream their music on Spotify! Artist: This Is A Lifetime

You can also check out their bandcamp page. Through the bandcamp app (which is also on their Facebook page), you can buy their songs at any price you want; minimum $1. You can pay using credit card or through Paypal. It's a small amount to pay but I'm sure it would mean a lot and help the band a long way.

While you're at it, check out their bio on Battle of the Bands Warped Tour 2014 and vote for them! Share the band's bio to your friends and encourage them to vote as well. I'm sure the band would appreciate it very much.

And don't forget to catch them at shows near you! BandsInTown: This Is A Lifetime :)

Disclaimer: I'm not a music critic. I won't know what to do with the technical aspects of music to begin with. I just write about songs and bands/artists who for me deserves to be heard. I just hope that if you're reading my blog, you have an open mind and try new things (or in this case listen to new songs/bands); you might like it too.

20 Ways You Can Be The Best Friend Ever with GoUnli20

How do you show someone that you'll always be a friend for him/her? That he or she can always depend on you, whether to make her smile when he/she is down or just get crazy together. However, when your best pal lives a few miles away from you, you just have to innovate to let that person know. And you may not always have the money to travel to and from their place anyway. So what do you do? You just shell out 20 bucks and buy yourself an Autoload. Then, register that 20 bucks to GoUnli 20. Done?

Now, let me give you the TOP 20 ways you can be the best friend ever!

1. Plan a group staycation with your best gal or guy friends. Staycation is a fun way to unwind without the need to go out of town. But, it's more fun to go on a staycation with a group. When you are registered to GoUnli20, it's easier to stay connected to your friends. You can either connect with them online, call them or have a group text sent. But, since you have unlimited calls, it's better to just call them. Because you know, a real friend calls.

2. Video chat with them and get crazy. The best thing about using GoUnli20 is that you can enjoy all day surfing so you are free to use any video chatting platform you want. Use WeChat, Viber, or Skype to say hello to friends, make face or just do anything stupid and funny.

3. Post a flashback photo of you and your best friends. It's better to laugh together, you know. So do it.

4. Send a group invite to your best pals on Facebook to eat out together. Like going to the mall, eating out is another fun way to meet with friends as well as stay cool this summer. Free air conditioning, right?

5. Send texts reminding your besties how much you love them. There are times when it's really hard to express our feelings or even say that we care in person. So why not SMS them instead?

6. Call your bestie first thing in the morning. Time doesn't matter when you want to stay close to someone. Did that already? Do it again. Come on! Remember, a real friend calls. :P

7. Call to ask how was your friend's day; at work or school. Sometimes, talking to friends is a great stress reliever.

8. You have unlimited calls so don't waste them. Take this opportunity to greet friends who are celebrating their birthdays in the coming days.

9. Read an inspiring story online and share it your friends online. You never know, you might uplift someone's spirit in the process.

10. Read a funny post on 9gag. I actually do this when I'm bored. And since you might be stuck at home in this kind of weather, you should make the most out of it. By finding something online to laugh about. And of course, you share it with your best gal or guy pals.

11. Send a cute, funny or sweet stickers on Line, Viber or WeChat. Although I don't actually use these platforms, I've seen how they work and those stickers can really make anyone smile.

12. Post a delicious food photo on Instagram. Better yet, post photos of summer foods and ask your friends to check them out. Perhaps, plan a get together to cook something you can all share.

13. While we're talking about posting photos on IG, why not post some photos of a summer destinations you wish to go to. Then, you can make this into your goal for the next summer; start saving up for it and all and plan that next vacation with your friends.

14. So you have unlimited calls, right? Maybe invite him/her to hang out sometimes. It doesn't even have to be spectacular, just a simple and friendly invitation. Best friends go on dates too!

15. Is your friend someone who is a really great but obscure artist? Then maybe you can use your free surfing MBs to share some of his/her works on your social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest or Twitter. Help him/her in promoting his works!

16. Download an ebook. You can use your free surfing MBs to download an ebook which you can read to pass time while you're coop up at home this summer. Amazon and Kobo both offer a ton of free ebooks that you can download in a jiffy. When you're done, you can recommend it to your best friend too. Sharing is caring!

17. Use your free surfing MB to download a summer song! How cool will it be to dance with your best friend with the tune of your favorite summer song? Or perhaps you can both try something new to listen to. I can actually recommend a few great songs to listen to this summer. Try Boys of Summer by The Ataris, Cool Kids by Echosmith, Rude by Magic!, End of Summer by Theory of a Deadman, The Best Day of My Life by American Authors, We Won't Go Home by The Colourist, or Magic by Coldplay. Really, there are tons!

18. Read an article from your favorite blogger or website. Why not spend those free MBs to catch up with your favorite blogs or websites?

19. Watch a YouTube video together. Invite your friend to come over some times and watch your favorite YouTube videos together. Perhaps you might want to catch up the latest performance of your favorite contestant on The Voice or American Idol. Or why not watch that Emma Stone and Jimmy Fallon lip sync battle? You know, that one was hilarious and amazing! You'll both love Emma in that video!

20. Call up your friend/s. Again. What? You have unlimited calls, anyway. Why not spend it talking to the people who really matter? It will make you feel wonderful. It always did for me.

It's so easy to be the best friend ever, right? And it's so affordable too!
With GoUnli20, it’s now easy to call without a need for a prefix and it’s just P20 for unli calls, 15mb of mobile surfing, and 20 texts to all networks! Kaya if you need a friend, don’t call me, I’ll call you!

X-MEN: Days of Future Past

a.  What would you correct from your past to save the future?
Hah! This is actually kinda hard for me to answer since I have quite a few. But, for this post, I think it would be to not burn all the bridges that I'd burned. There are people in my past whom I just stopped talking, some people with whom I have some beef but never talked it out with them. It's kinda hard to carry the emotional baggage which resulted from my actions in the past.

If only I had the courage to confront people outright, I may have save some of those salvageable friendships. And to those people whom I just stopped talking altogether, I actually miss them now. In fact, I am in the process of organizing a mini-reunion with those friends (yes, we're still friends, thankfully) so we could catch up. I'm trying to save the future of my friendship with these people; it can get pretty lonely when you realize that the people you used to smile and joked with are now barely in your life.
Can't wait forthe X-Men Days of Future Past movie? How about tide yourself over in the meantime with this TV spot?

So, why am I being so melodramatic and insists on bringing back the past? Well, because 20th Century Fox and Nuffnang Philippines are giving away invites to the exclusive screening of ‘X-MEN:  Days of Future Past’ on May 23, Friday, 9:50 pm at Shargri-La Cineplex Cinema 1! Check out the contest mechanic here.

Cheers! :D

7107 International Music Festival

If there's something that is getting concert-goers and rock enthusiasts out there absolutely nuts, this is probably it. I mean come on, it is going to be headlined by RED HOT FUCKING CHILI PEPPERS! Shit, yourself yet? I almost did when it was announced, so I'm guessing I'm not alone. I know a lot of you folks out there have been praying for this. And now, it's finally happening! 7107 International Music Festival, ladies and gents!

This 2-day outdoor music festival is happening in Clark, Pampanga on February 22-23, 2014. There will be two stages, according to the information on 7107imf.com. Both stages will present a spectacular lineup of international and local artists.

It's too bad that I know I'm not going to be there. It's too far and I probably won't have enough cash to cover expenses and tickets. But, what makes me really happy about this music festival (aside from the fact that Anthony Fucking Keidis is setting foot on the Philippine soil) is that the organizers are doing it right. Just read the following reminders on their page:
"Scalpers are not tolerated."

"Don’t even try to resell your passes as these will be invalidated."
Finally, a concert/music festival where scalpers have no power. :D

Pulp Summer Slam 14

Well, this one's not included in the 1st quarter list since it's happening in April. But, it deserves to be mentioned because HATEBREED, that's why! Although, this year's Pulp Summer Slam will be headlined by Bullet for My Valentine and Asking Alexandria (which left hardcore metal fans seething and arguing about the gayness of them). I for one, don't care who's headlining. I mean, guys, chill up. I'm sure everybody's still going to have a great time and will be out of voice (and wits) at the end (or in this case, start) of the day.

This year's Summer Slam is entitled Children of the Damned and will also feature melodic death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder, Kreator, Death Angel and Crossfaith. Local line up is yet to be announced but I'm sure you'll get plenty of Arci Munoz and her band Philia.

Date:       April 26, 2014, Saturday
Venue:     Amoranto Stadium, Quezon City, PH
Ticket Prices:  General Admission: 400php

Movies You Still Have to See Before the Year Ends

In a little more than 30 days, we are going to welcome 2014. And do you know what that means for me and my fellow movie enthusiasts out there? A new year for exciting movies! You must have heard by now about the big movies slated to come to theaters next year. The Avengers: Age of Ultron, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Guardians of the Galaxy, anyone?

But, contain your excitement for now. Actually, don't. There are a few more movies set to come out before the year ends and you might be interested in checking them out. See below:

This action-thriller film is directed by Gary Fleder. It was based on Chuck Logan's novel of the same name and adapted into a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone. The film stars Jason Statham, James Franco, Winona Ryder, and Kate Bosworth. The movie was originally set to be released in 2014 but got an early date instead - November 27, 2013.

If you're a fan of Jason Statham, you should see this movie. I, for one, would. I always liked Jason and the fact that I always expect less from his movies but usually ends up feeling good about watching them.

The operation eventually involves the Mayor of Camden, New Jersey, Carmine Polito (Jeremy Renner), caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving's wife, Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence), could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.

This is the premise of the latest crime drama film from Columbia Pictures and directed by David O. Russell. I say, you take a look at this one. There's Jennifer Lawrence, for one. And oohhhh Bradley Cooper! :D
