#NewMusicDiscovery: This Is A Lifetime

Recently, I've been discovering new music through my twitter feeds. How? I've been getting new followers and a few interactions from bands/artists. It's kinda flattering for someone like me (who's just a nobody on the internet). So, I've promised myself that I will find some time to help them by blogging about them and their music. Here's my first: THIS IS A LIFETIME.
This Is A Lifetime or TIAL is a metal band from Northeast Ohio. Stevie James on vocals, Mike Oiler on guitar and clean vocals, Morgan Patterson on bass and Joe Czekaj on drums are the band. I checked out their profile on Battle of the Bands Warped Tour; and yes, I voted for them. On their Facebook page's About section, "Follow your dreams :: Destroy anything in your way." is written. Huh, Hatebreed's influence? Oh, I'm getting more curious. You know, 'coz I love Hatebreed.

So anyway, I checked out the band's profile on Facebook as well as their website to see if I could listen to some of their songs. There are 5 songs available on their page and you can listen to them to your heart's content. There are also 4 songs up on the Battle of the Bands Warped Tour 2014 page. Yup, I listened to all of the songs! Since it was the first on the list, I listened to Witness first. My first thoughts? Nice. The guttural growl of Stevie and the clean vocals of Mike is a perfect combination! Oh my God! I would love to watch a live performance of this band. Too bad I'm not from around the US or I'll have watched a show or two by now. Well, I have no choice but to wait for them to do a world tour and drop by Manila for the Asian leg. Hey guys (TIAL), make it in the near future alright?

Next, I listened to Clarity since it's also the title of their album. I totally LOVED IT! It could just be me, but the balance of heavy guttural singing and clean, even sweet, vocals appealed to me so much. I couldn't stop listening. In fact, while dong this blog post, I have listened to Witness and Clarity from their Facebook page, the Battle of the Bands page, and their Bandcamp page. And I have listened to the two songs twice from each page. Crazy, huh? Right now, I'm listening to Ascend. Why does this have only 17 plays on there? Yes, this one is on the heavier side but it's a great song nonetheless. Earlier, I also listened to Survival and Price. Equally great songs. Although, it's clear now that Clarity, Witness and Ascend are my top choices. But, I am downloading all of the 5 songs; I just need to add funds to my Paypal account first. :D

Huh, why don't I know about this band until now? They don't even have their own Wiki page yet. Could somebody set up one for them please? I would have done it but I don't have information about them; only the tidbits I could find on their band page and Facebook. But seriously, I hope these guys find their place in the international music battleground soon. People need to hear their music. Best of luck, TIAL! I hope you're here for a lifetime.

For more information about the band, you can check out their Facebook page. There, you can listen to the songs I was talking about as well as support them by buying their digital album and merch.

Follow them on Twitter! @thisisalifetime
Subscribe to their YouTube channel! YT/user/thisisalifetime
Add them on your circles! +thisisalifetime
Stream their music on Spotify! Artist: This Is A Lifetime

You can also check out their bandcamp page. Through the bandcamp app (which is also on their Facebook page), you can buy their songs at any price you want; minimum $1. You can pay using credit card or through Paypal. It's a small amount to pay but I'm sure it would mean a lot and help the band a long way.

While you're at it, check out their bio on Battle of the Bands Warped Tour 2014 and vote for them! Share the band's bio to your friends and encourage them to vote as well. I'm sure the band would appreciate it very much.

And don't forget to catch them at shows near you! BandsInTown: This Is A Lifetime :)

Disclaimer: I'm not a music critic. I won't know what to do with the technical aspects of music to begin with. I just write about songs and bands/artists who for me deserves to be heard. I just hope that if you're reading my blog, you have an open mind and try new things (or in this case listen to new songs/bands); you might like it too.

X-MEN: Days of Future Past

a.  What would you correct from your past to save the future?
Hah! This is actually kinda hard for me to answer since I have quite a few. But, for this post, I think it would be to not burn all the bridges that I'd burned. There are people in my past whom I just stopped talking, some people with whom I have some beef but never talked it out with them. It's kinda hard to carry the emotional baggage which resulted from my actions in the past.

If only I had the courage to confront people outright, I may have save some of those salvageable friendships. And to those people whom I just stopped talking altogether, I actually miss them now. In fact, I am in the process of organizing a mini-reunion with those friends (yes, we're still friends, thankfully) so we could catch up. I'm trying to save the future of my friendship with these people; it can get pretty lonely when you realize that the people you used to smile and joked with are now barely in your life.
Can't wait forthe X-Men Days of Future Past movie? How about tide yourself over in the meantime with this TV spot?

So, why am I being so melodramatic and insists on bringing back the past? Well, because 20th Century Fox and Nuffnang Philippines are giving away invites to the exclusive screening of ‘X-MEN:  Days of Future Past’ on May 23, Friday, 9:50 pm at Shargri-La Cineplex Cinema 1! Check out the contest mechanic here.

Cheers! :D

7107 International Music Festival

If there's something that is getting concert-goers and rock enthusiasts out there absolutely nuts, this is probably it. I mean come on, it is going to be headlined by RED HOT FUCKING CHILI PEPPERS! Shit, yourself yet? I almost did when it was announced, so I'm guessing I'm not alone. I know a lot of you folks out there have been praying for this. And now, it's finally happening! 7107 International Music Festival, ladies and gents!

This 2-day outdoor music festival is happening in Clark, Pampanga on February 22-23, 2014. There will be two stages, according to the information on Both stages will present a spectacular lineup of international and local artists.

It's too bad that I know I'm not going to be there. It's too far and I probably won't have enough cash to cover expenses and tickets. But, what makes me really happy about this music festival (aside from the fact that Anthony Fucking Keidis is setting foot on the Philippine soil) is that the organizers are doing it right. Just read the following reminders on their page:
"Scalpers are not tolerated."

"Don’t even try to resell your passes as these will be invalidated."
Finally, a concert/music festival where scalpers have no power. :D

Pulp Summer Slam 14

Well, this one's not included in the 1st quarter list since it's happening in April. But, it deserves to be mentioned because HATEBREED, that's why! Although, this year's Pulp Summer Slam will be headlined by Bullet for My Valentine and Asking Alexandria (which left hardcore metal fans seething and arguing about the gayness of them). I for one, don't care who's headlining. I mean, guys, chill up. I'm sure everybody's still going to have a great time and will be out of voice (and wits) at the end (or in this case, start) of the day.

This year's Summer Slam is entitled Children of the Damned and will also feature melodic death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder, Kreator, Death Angel and Crossfaith. Local line up is yet to be announced but I'm sure you'll get plenty of Arci Munoz and her band Philia.

Date:       April 26, 2014, Saturday
Venue:     Amoranto Stadium, Quezon City, PH
Ticket Prices:  General Admission: 400php

Movies You Still Have to See Before the Year Ends

In a little more than 30 days, we are going to welcome 2014. And do you know what that means for me and my fellow movie enthusiasts out there? A new year for exciting movies! You must have heard by now about the big movies slated to come to theaters next year. The Avengers: Age of Ultron, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Guardians of the Galaxy, anyone?

But, contain your excitement for now. Actually, don't. There are a few more movies set to come out before the year ends and you might be interested in checking them out. See below:

This action-thriller film is directed by Gary Fleder. It was based on Chuck Logan's novel of the same name and adapted into a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone. The film stars Jason Statham, James Franco, Winona Ryder, and Kate Bosworth. The movie was originally set to be released in 2014 but got an early date instead - November 27, 2013.

If you're a fan of Jason Statham, you should see this movie. I, for one, would. I always liked Jason and the fact that I always expect less from his movies but usually ends up feeling good about watching them.

Fibr: Home’s Most Powerful Broadband

If you were a character in the Hunger Games, how would you use Fibr to help you train to win the pageant?
Have you seen the latest product from PLDT called Fibr? Well, I''ve first seen the TVC in a YouTube video. Check it out below:

It would be nice to have that kind of speed in your internet connection right? And since the latest installment of the Hunger Games movie franchise is coming out, PLDT and Nuffnang is asking "how you would use Fibr to help you win in Hunger Games?"

Hmmm. Maybe I would use the fast internet connection to research about my opponents and check out their techniques and find their weaknesses. That way, I would know how to depend myself against them as well as how I can use their weak points to my advantage. I would also use the internet connection to search for YouTube videos for self-help or DIY instructions on different fighting and survival techniques. And since I would also need a beautiful dress for the introduction of the tributes, I would also use Fibr to search for a unique design of dress. Pronto!

After all the preparations, of course, the tension is going to be palpable especially since I wouldn't be sure if I'll survive. It's now time to relax and take advantage of the free movies on-demand on ClickPlay.

That would be fun! Hee Hee. :D

Fibr, Home’s most powerful broadband, allows you to seamlessly and simultaneously experience the following:

- Browsing of multiple websites
- Stream hundreds blockbuster movies on-demand from Clickplay
- Watch Cignal Digital TV Channels
- Available now in over 800 fiber-powered villages nationwide
- Visit or call 101-FIBR (3427) for more details.

Nuffnang and PLDT Fibr have partnered to give away advanced screening tickets to one the most awaited movies of the year; The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Check out the pic below for details!

OneRepublic LIVE in Manila #OneRepublicMNL

I remember the first time I heard One Republic on radio, I wasn't too enthusiastic about them. That was the time when I'm really immersed in heavy metal and gothic rock. I didn't care much about alternative music especially if they are too "pop" for my taste. Yeah, the first time I heard Ryan Tedder's voice over the airwaves, he was singing Apologize and it was Timbaland's remix version. So, you will forgive me if I didn't really care about them at the time.

However, my husband who's more into alternative and pop rock at that time (yeah, I was the one who influenced him to dig the heavier stuff) convinced me to try to listen to the original version of Apologize. He told me that I should actually try listening to the entire album; which is Dreaming Out Loud. He was really impressed with Ryan Tedder. I did; I tried listening to the original version of Apologize. I loved it. And the rest, as you would say, is history.

I am now partly in love with Ryan Tedder's voice and yeah, I'm quite excited that they're actually stopping by Manila for their Native Tour. Sadly, money is tight right now and I'm not sure if I can afford to buy a ticket to their show on November 6, 2013 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Any hoo, I am writing this blog post to tell you just how excited I am and what songs I would love to hear them perform live. Here goes:

1. Apologize

Since this is the very first song I've heard from One Republic, of course I'd love to hear it live. I'd love to be there in person and feel the emotions of this song. 'Coz you know, that's how Ryan sings; he sings straight to your heart.

2. Stop and Stare

Just like Apologize, this is another epic One Republic song. I think if you are kind of depressed and you listen to this song alone in your room, you're gonna cry. Or maybe that just me cause I'm too emo. But, whatever. I would love to see how Ryan Tedder pours his emotions into this song on the 6th of November.

3. Good Life

I like this song because it's something that anyone can relate to and one that can make you feel good. It's like if I'm having a bad day, I would listen to this song and I'd feel better. So yeah, hearing it live and seeing the band perform it would definitely make me feel good; maybe even prompt me to say "It's gonna be a good life!" :D

4. If I Lose Myself

What's not to love about this song? It's a rock (maybe pop rock) ballad that you would dedicate to your loved ones or maybe that one person you love; someone who you would like to be with you if the world ends tomorrow. I can already feel the energy rising inside that Big Dome as the band performs this song!

5. Counting Stars

Just because the music video features an alligator and I think it's kinda relevant to the current situation in the Philippines? That's part of it, yes. But, I fell in love with Ryan Tedder all over again when I first heard this song. Count the stars with him? Oh, yes please! Seriously, I can imagine myself dancing to this tune when they perform this live. I imagine I'd totally lose myself and will not care if I'm annoying other concert-goers around me. And yeah, I don't dance so I can see why some people would not appreciate me going crazy.

*Special mention would be Secrets and a few cover songs that the band have previously performed. How about their cover of Oasis' Don't Go Away and The Verve's Bitter Sweet Symphony? That would be fantastic; seeing as I also adore those two bands.

Try to listen (or watch the videos) to these songs and tell me that you don't feel my excitement for their upcoming concert. Hey, it's not everyday that you get the chance to see a great band with a great singer and songwriter perform live. And besides, I would love to see for myself if Ryan Tedder can really hit that high note - B above high C. Let's hope that November 6, 2013 is a good day for him. :)

One Republic will be in Asia for their Native Tour. They have a total of 6 six shows across China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and ending in the Philippines on November 6. The final leg of the 2013 tour will be in Australia and New Zealand.

The Philippine leg of Native Tour is presented by Midas Promotions. For more information, check out their Facebook Page.

*Nuffnang Philippines is giving away tickets to One Replublic's Native Tour concert on November 6, 2013. (The very reason why I am writing this blog post - to try and score me some tickets. So please, help me cross my fingers!) Check out mechanics here.

Dear Tom Clancy

Where ever you are right now, I just want to say Thank You.

For the books, the stories you've brought in this world. For Jack Ryan, Robby Jackson, Ding Chavez and John Clark. For teaching me the different parts of a submarine, a carrier, a frigate, a cruiser and destroyer among others. Your books have piqued my interest in different fighter and S&R aircraft, different kinds and types of military weapons; they have (for a while) inspired me to join the military. Thank you so much for the story of bravery, courage and patriotism.

I wasn't aware that you're having problems with your health. I was expecting you to write more books and expand Jack Ryan Jr.'s universe. In my heart, I think I was wishing that you'd be healthy and strong enough to finish Jack Jr.'s arc. That you'd still write more books. But, don't worry. Even if you can't write any more books, I'm keeping a piece of you with me - a small collection of your books. I will forever be your fan.

My love for your works actually started when my college professor and friend introduced me to espionage and military science genre. The Hunt for Red October was the first book I've read. I was instantly hooked. Next thing I know, I was constantly browsing bookstores and frequenting book sales to get copies of the entire Jack Ryan series.

After reading Patriot Games, I've read Red Storm Rising and boy, was I glad I did. It was like being transported into a Gulf War-like setting. Reading this book felt like I was actually maneuvering alongside the characters, like being aboard the carriers and stealth planes. I felt like I've actually been to Keflavik, Iceland. This book and The Hunt for Red October are my favorites.

The Cardinal of the Kremlin is, for me, a classic example of rivalry between the United States's CIA and Russia's KGB. It presents intimate details about how the KGB works; constantly in a contest of subterfuge with the CIA. It's a battle of supremacy between the two intelligence agencies. This is where I've first met John Clark and other recurring characters in other sequels like Executive Orders and The Bear and the Dragon. On the other hand, Clear and Present Danger tells a story about military missions being compromised and how it can be fatal especially on another country's soil. This is where I've met Ding Chavez.

I've read most of these books during my last 2 years in college and right after. Some books I've even finished reading in one sitting without - skipping a page. I stayed up all night just to finished even the thickest paperback in a single sitting. These books helped in keeping me sane during those crazy days known as college life.

To this day, there are only a few titles I haven't read; with the exception of the non-fiction books. I've even read all books from other universe such as Net Force, Power Plays and Op-Center.

The Sum of All Fears (1991)
Without Remorse (1993)

Rainbow Six (1998)
The Bear and The Dragon (2000)

Dead or Alive (2010)

The Archimedes Effect (Net Force universe)
Balance of Power (Op-Center universe) (Power Plays universe)

I've got this little collection of all your books, Tom. Sadly, these are all what's left of the entire collection. I'm missing some of my books; not sure if I left it in our town or someone borrowed it. I'm missing my copy of The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Executive Orders, Debt of Honor, and all the other books from the Net Force universe, Op-Center universe and Power Plays universe. Perhaps they are among those I've lost when the apartment I was renting was destroyed by a storm.

I plan on restoring the collection, however. I want to honor you that way. I'd also like for my son to have the collection and get to know your works when he grow up.

Once again, Thank You. May you rest in peace and where ever you are, regal them with your stories of espionage and warfare. Keep them entertained. Just like you kept me entertained and thousands of other people around the world.

[Sponsored Video]: Never Trust Who You Can’t Control

That’s right. Never do so. It’s like trusting a King Cobra. Never think that it will not bite you in the end after you've sheltered it. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the theme of the newest television series to hit your TV screens; The Blacklist.

So, what exactly is The Blacklist? Well, it’s the newest suspense thriller to hit your television screens. The story is about Raymond “Red” Reddington, the world’s most wanted criminal. He surrendered to the FBI and claimed that he wanted to help them eliminate their common enemy: criminals and terrorists. But, there is a catch. Red only wants to work with Elizabeth Keen.

Could the FBI really trust Red? Is it worth it for them to operate on the belief that “the best weapon against the enemy is another enemy”? What’s with Red’s sudden interest with a mere rookie FBI profiler? Are there any truth to his claims that “The Blacklist” contains the names of criminals and terrorists that the FBI would want to see?

It’s a circus of subterfuge, wild goose chase and catching criminals at the FBI Headquarters! So better keep up.

The Blacklist stars James Spader as Raymond Reddington, Megan Boone as Elizabeth Keen, and Harry Lennix as FBI Assistant Director Harold Cooper. Joe Carnahan (The A-Team, The Grey) is directing. It was written by Jon Bokenkamp.

James Spader stars as Raymond “Red” Reddington; he is best known for his roles as Alan Shore in The Practice and as Robert California in The Office.
Megan Boone stars as rookie FBI profiler Elizabeth Keen.
Catch The Blacklist on AXN Asia every Wednesday at 10pm. It will be aired at 9pm in Jakarta and Thailand. In the Philippines, you can catch The Blacklist every Monday at 10pm.

Get to know more about The Blacklist by visiting the AXN Asia website. You can also watch previews of the episodes on the AXN YouTube Channel. Be updated on the latest news, get more info, and check out new episodes by liking AXN Asia on Facebook.
